  • The tennis player is working on improving the quality of her shots

Emma Raducanu expressed her excitement about collaborating with former coach Rafael Nadal's uncle, Francis Romain, in preparation for the US Open. The 22-year-old tennis player had been working with British coach Mark Petchey since February, but now Romain has become a permanent member of her team.

Romain, 57, worked with Nadal's grandfather Toni from 2005 to 2022 and participated in all 22 of Nadal's Grand Slam tournaments. Raducanu noted: "He has an incredible, vast experience, and I am very happy to continue working with him."

This week, Raducanu will participate in the Cincinnati Open, which is the last tournament before the US Open, starting on August 24. She has already reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open and also made it to the Round of 16 at the Italian Open.

Raducanu hopes that the new coach will help her improve the quality of her game, especially to strengthen her shots so she can compete at the highest level. She mentioned that while results may take time, she is focused on working hard on herself.

Raducanu also pointed out that she does not have a permanent coach since January when Nick Kavaday left the team. Previously, she had collaborated with various coaches, but now she hopes for stability under Romain's leadership.

This week is an important stage for Raducanu as she prepares for the US Open, competing against potential superstars like Katie Boulter.
