Apple Expands Manufacturing in the USA and Partners with Samsung
- Apple invests $100 billion in manufacturing in the USA
- Partnership with Samsung for sensor manufacturing in Texas
- Manufacturing glass for iPhone in Kentucky
This is reported by The Verge, CNET.
Apple announced plans to invest an additional $100 billion in manufacturing in the USA over the next four years. This initiative is part of the expanded American manufacturing program, with a total investment amounting to $600 billion.
As part of this effort, the company is also partnering with Samsung to manufacture digital image sensors for future iPhone models in Texas. This new technology will allow Samsung to produce sensors with a three-layer structure, which will be used in the iPhone 18. Currently, the only supplier of sensors for Apple is Sony, which does not have manufacturing capabilities in the USA.
US President Donald Trump supported Apple's initiative, emphasizing that the company intends to create 450,000 jobs across all 50 states. Additionally, Trump noted that the import of chips from other countries could be subject to a 100% tariff.
Moreover, Apple plans to manufacture all glass for the iPhone and Apple Watch in Kentucky, collaborating with the company Corning. This strategy will allow Apple to reduce dependency on overseas suppliers and mitigate new tariffs.
While increased tariffs could pose a challenge for Apple, analysts believe the company has the capacity for adaptation. Apple has already moved part of its manufacturing from China to India and Vietnam to reduce tariffs and minimize risks associated with global supply chain disruptions.
In light of these developments, Apple is also competing in the artificial intelligence sector, where competitors like Google and Microsoft continue to advance their technologies. This competition highlights that Apple may need to invest in significant innovations.
