ESPN Launches New Streaming Service and Signs Agreements with NFL and WWE

  • ESPN is launching a new streaming service on September 21, 2025.
  • The company has signed agreements with the NFL and WWE to expand its content.
  • It is expected that the new platform will attract 25 million subscribers.

ESPN announced the launch of its new streaming service on September 21, 2025. This will take place on the Disney-owned financial platform, which owns ESPN. The new service will allow users to access all of ESPN's networks and include agreements with the NFL and WWE.

Along with the new agreements, ESPN will gain rights to the NFL Network and additional NFL games, which will allow it to broadcast more matches, including Monday Night games and special playoffs. ESPN will also become the exclusive home for all premium WWE events in the U.S., starting in 2026.

According to Nielsen data, streaming service viewership has surpassed traditional television in the U.S. for the first time in history. ESPN plans to attract nearly 25 million subscribers to the new platform. The subscription price for the new service will be $29.95 per month.

It begins with ESPN facing challenges from declining domestic viewership, which is expected to drop from 100 million in 2013 to 60 million by 2025, with a further decrease to less than 50 million over the next two years.

Under the leadership of Jimmy Pitaro, who became ESPN's head in 2018, the company aims to strengthen its ties with the NFL, which had been strained. Pitaro noted that the new agreements with the NFL are important for solidifying the partnership.
