Radford, a 28-year-old sergeant, worked in the field of automated logistics and, according to reports, used a personal firearm, not a military one. After the shooting, other soldiers quickly detained him until police arrived. All injured soldiers are in stable condition and are awaiting treatment.
The authorities did not disclose the motives for the attack. According to information, in Radford there was a limited criminal history, including an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol, but his command did not know about this incident.
At Fort Stewart is stationed a 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, known as the "Spartan Brigade", it is one of the most modern combat forces of the U.S. Army. It is noted that this is not the first incident of violence at this base, previously tragedies had also occurred there.
The lockdown at the base lasted nearly an hour, during this time three nearby schools also made the decision to close down in order to prevent any possible danger. The government of Georgia expressed condolences to the injured and their families.
