A Briton Charged with Murdering His Girlfriend in the USA

62-year-old British tourist Mark Raymond Gibbon was arrested in the state of Florida after being charged with the murder of his girlfriend. The incident took place during a vacation at the Solterra Resort in Davenport on September 6, 2025.

According to information from the Polk County Sheriff, Gibbon attempted to drown a 33-year-old woman in the pool after a conflict that arose between them. Witnesses claim that the man repeatedly held the victim's head underwater, preventing her from breathing.

He stopped his aggression only after neighbors reported that they had called the police, and the 29-year-old victim managed to escape to the pool, trying to save her mother. Gibbon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault.

Sheriff Grady Judd stated in his announcement that the deputies of Polk County must adhere to the rules of conduct, as well as local residents.
