Meeting of Zelensky with Merz Confirms Support for Ukraine

On July 7, 2025, a phone conversation took place between the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. During the conversation, they discussed recent events following the meeting with the Special Representative of the USA, Steve Uitkoff, with Vladimir Putin.
According to the information from the press service of the Chancellor of Germany, Merz and Zelensky highly assessed the strengthening of the US President's mediation and agreed that Russia must stop its aggressive war, which violates international law.
Both sides agreed on a close exchange of information with European partners and the USA. The Chancellor of Germany emphasized the President of Ukraine in his previous support.
Zelensky stressed the need to involve Europe in peace negotiations regarding Ukraine. He noted that Ukraine and Germany see the necessity of the earliest possible end to the war with a just peace. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the parameters of the end of the war will define the conditions for security for Europe in the coming decades.
After the conversation with Merz, Zelensky reported on the discussion of various formats of future meetings at the level of leaders: bilateral and trilateral. The President of Ukraine also noted that Ukraine will not refuse meetings and is looking for a bold approach from Russia to finally end the war.
