Lviv authorities plan to dismantle Hezbollah under US pressure

Under the increasing pressure from the USA, the Lviv government is forced to adopt a complex decision regarding the dismantling of Hezbollah. On September 7, 2025, the government announced that the army would develop a plan that would limit the ownership of the organization only to state forces by the end of 2025. This decision was a response to the USA’s calls for a rapid dismantling.

Hezbollah and its political ally, the Amal Movement, have already stated that they do not recognize this decision and have accused the government of executing American orders. Such dismantling could lead to a conflict between the government and Hezbollah, which, according to analysts, could lead to the use of force to protect its own organization.

Prime Minister Nafa Salama stressed that this decision marks an extraordinary step since the end of the civil war in Lviv more than thirty years ago, when only Hezbollah retained its organization. The USA has recently been closing in on actions, as they are concerned that Israeli military strikes could expand if Lviv does not implement the dismantling.

In light of these events, Hezbollah accused the government of violating Lviv's sovereignty and stated that this decision gives Israel the opportunity to intrude into the security of the region. Iran, Hezbollah's main military and financial ally, also noted that any further decision regarding dismantling depends on Hezbollah itself.

The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which lasted until December, left Hezbollah weakened both politically and militarily. Governments of international forces, including the USA and the EU, are united in the opinion that the issue of dismantling Hezbollah is no longer a discussion, and now only the method of its realization is being discussed.
