Zurich, Switzerland (AP) — Following the latest FIFA rankings, the women's national team of Spain has reclaimed first place, surpassing the United States, which had held this position since September of last year after winning gold at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Spain achieved the status of leader, regardless of their loss to England in the final of the European Championship, which took place last month. The United States held the top position from December 2023 to June 2024 after winning the World Championship.
The latest rankings were published on September 7, 2025. The England team, which won two consecutive European championships and was a finalist in the 2023 World Championship, climbed one spot and secured fourth place. Brazil dropped three positions to seventh place, despite their successful title defense at the Copa America, having beaten nine continental competitors.
Sweden and France also showed good results in the Euros, climbing in the rankings. Sweden, which lost to England in the semifinals, climbed three positions and took third place, while France climbed four positions to sixth place.
