- The FBI is assisting in the search for Texas Democrats who left the state.
- Democrats fled Texas to block the Republican redistricting plan.

This is reported by ABC News, NBC News.
Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, announced on Thursday that FBI Director Kash Patel approved his request for assistance in the search for Texas Democrats who left the state to protest against the Republican redistricting plan.
Cornyn sent a letter requesting assistance via a video call, stating that the federal government should act to "hold accountable those who violate their constitutional obligations."
In his statement, he thanked President Trump and Director Patel for their swift response to his request. Cornyn characterized the actions of the Democrats as "unprecedented," as they left Texas, which hindered the work of legislative bodies, including a recent vote in the region.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott also instructed the Department of Public Safety to locate absent Democrats and return them to Austin. He noted that this directive remains in force until lawmakers are no longer "absent."
The Republican plan for redistricting could secure them additional three-to-five seats in Congress in the upcoming elections.
