OpenAI presents new GPT-5 models after information leak
- OpenAI has announced new GPT-5 models with improvements
- The models include gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, gpt-5-nano, and gpt-5-chat
- A live announcement is expected on September 10, 2025
This was reported by The Verge, CNET.
On September 7, 2025, GitHub accidentally revealed information about the new GPT-5 models from OpenAI. The leaked blog mentioned that GPT-5, which will be available in four different variants, features significant enhancements in reasoning, code quality, and user-friendliness.
The blog described four model variants:
- gpt-5: Designed for logical and complex tasks.
- gpt-5-mini: A lighter version for budget applications.
- gpt-5-nano: Optimized for speed, ideal for applications with low latency.
- gpt-5-chat: Developed for complex, natural, multimodal, and context-aware conversations for corporate applications.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that a major update will occur on September 10, 2025. He stated that this will be "something big, but small" in the announcement, and in the middle of the announcement, it was mentioned that a live stream will be held at 10:00 Thailand time.
Among the expected features of the new model are enhanced agent capabilities, allowing for the execution of complex coding tasks with minimal prompts. This improvement follows the release of the open-weight model GPT-OSS, which ensures transparency in functionality.
Earlier this year, OpenAI released GPT-4 in March, and then the GPT-4.5 models were presented in July. Altman noted that the launch of GPT-5 was delayed due to the complexity of integrating all elements and the necessity to address the significant demand for the new model.
