This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) of Ukraine has denied the accusations of Hungarian officials regarding the investigation into the death of a Ukrainian citizen and ethnic Hungarian József Sebestény, who died on July 6, 2025. According to the DBR, a criminal proceeding was opened in the Zakarpattia region by the specialized prosecutor's office in the field of military service at the beginning of July.

Sebestény was called up for military service on June 14, 2025, in Mukachevo. After a medical examination at the Uzhhorod military enlistment office, he received permission for service. On June 18, while being in the military unit, he left his place of service without permission, and on June 19, he returned to the Berehiv district psychiatric hospital with severe headaches and possible head trauma.

Sebestény was transferred to the Berehiv district hospital, where the doctors did not find any serious injuries. On June 24, due to his condition, he was transferred to the regional psychiatric hospital in Berehiv. On July 7, the police received a report about his death on July 6 in the medical institution. During the forensic examination and body inspection, no signs of violent death were found.

Hungarian officials claimed that individuals from the Ukrainian military were involved in Sebestény's death. However, Ukrainian military officials denied this information, stating that he died from a combination of a legendary artery rupture. Hungary continues to disseminate this information, demanding from the European Union to impose sanctions against Ukrainian officials, including against three military officers.
