Instagram has introduced new features that, according to the company Meta, help users communicate better with their friends. Among the new offerings are the ability to repost content, a new "Friends" tab, and an interactive map for shared location-based experiences.

What are the new Instagram features?

At a press conference held on September 7, 2025, Meta announced a number of updates to the popular app. Users can now repost Reels from public profiles and posts to share with their own followers.

Reposting Reels and Posts

Users can repost content that will be displayed in the feeds of their friends and followers. The repost will be marked, and users will be able to view all their reposts in a separate tab.

New Map for Shared Location-based Experiences

The map allows users to choose who they want to share their location-based experiences with. Users can select from three options: a created friends list, a list of "Close Friends," or followers they have in common. The location that users share in their stories will be displayed on the map for 24 hours.

The "Friends" Tab in Reels

The "Friends" tab allows users to see public content that their friends interact with, as well as recommendations from Blends. Users can control what is displayed in this tab, including being able to hide their preferences and comments.

Additionally, parents who control their children's accounts receive notifications if their children decide to share their location-based experiences.
