Support for Ukraine and the EU on the anniversary of the war

On August 7, 2025, the 17th anniversary of the beginning of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Georgia is marked. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Georgia.
As a result of the aggression, approximately 20% of Georgia's territory has come under illegal control of occupying forces. More than 200,000 citizens of Georgia have been forced to relocate to their own country.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine indicates that this aggression has become the first significant manifestation of the new imperial policy of the Kremlin, which has led to further aggression against Ukraine. The ministry emphasized the worsening humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
The European Union also condemns the ongoing military occupation of Georgian territories, reaffirming its support for Tbilisi. The statement notes the need for the cessation of military presence of Russia in the occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The EU emphasized the importance of a peaceful resolution of conflicts in Georgia and the continuation of efforts towards stabilization and resolution of the conflict in the region. In particular, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to the independence and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.
