An American soldier accused of espionage for the benefit of Russia

  • Soldier Taylor Lee attempted to pass on secret information to Russia.
  • The accusations include espionage and an attempt to transmit military secrets.
  • Lee gained access to sensitive data due to his military status.

22-year-old American soldier Taylor Adam Lee, who serves at Fort Bliss in Texas, was arrested for attempting to transmit secret information about the Abrams tanks to Russia. The U.S. Department of Justice accused him of espionage, asserting that he provided an SD card with sensitive data to a Russian representative.

Lee, who had access to classified information, tried to obtain Russian citizenship in exchange for the information. Court documents indicate that he intended to transmit data about the M1A2 Abrams tanks and other military technical characteristics.

Along with the accusatory act, Lee met with a representative he believed was a Russian agent, and provided him with an SD card containing documents and information about combat operations. During this meeting, he also transmitted detailed equipment data from the tank, and subsequently sent a text message with the phrase "Mission accomplished."

Lee is currently charged with attempting to transmit national defense information to a foreign adversary and with attempting to export controlled technical data without a license. His arrest raised concerns about serious threats that the American army faces.
