Steelers' starter Rodgers to miss first preseason game
- Aaron Rodgers and the key players will miss the first game
- Will Govard is injured and will not play on Saturday
- Logan Woodside signed to back up the team
In Latrobe, Pennsylvania, new quarterback Aaron Rodgers and other key players of the team Pittsburgh Steelers will not take the field during the opening of the preseason against Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday. The team's head coach Mike Tomlin stated that experienced players do not need to play in the early preseason games.
Rodgers, who signed a one-year contract with the Steelers in June, expressed readiness to play, but Tomlin does not consider it necessary. The team also noted improvements in the game of the first team during training at Saint Vincent College.
Working quarterback Will Govard is unable to play due to an injury to his right hand, and his absence forced the team to sign backup quarterback Logan Woodside. Tomlin stated that Woodside can participate in the game, but the main snaps will be taken by Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.
Rodgers also mentioned the mentorship of Govard, who suffered an injury, and noted that this year is important for his development.
