Tiptonville, Tennessee — Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty for Austin Robert Drammond, a 28-year-old man accused of murdering his parents, grandparents, and an unnamed relative, found abandoned in the yard of a private home. This incident has shocked the local community in western Tennessee.
In a hearing in court, District Attorney Denny Gudmen reported that the state intends to seek the death penalty. The court of Lake County, Andrew T. Cook, set a preliminary hearing for Drammond without bail due to the capital nature of the case.
Drammond appeared before the court via video link from jail. He stated that he wants a speedy resolution of the case. The court noted his name, as the attorney has not yet been appointed.
The man is charged with four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during a felony. Searches for Drammond lasted a week and ended in Jackson, approximately 70 miles southeast of the murder scene, which occurred on July 29.
The incident began when an unidentified person was found in a car in the yard in the Tigrett area, about 40 miles from Tiptonville. The sheriff's office of Dyer County received a report that an unidentified person had been left in "a case of abandonment."
In the neighboring county of Lake, four people were found, who died from gunshot wounds. It was established that these were the parents of the unidentified person, James M. Wilson, 21 years old, and Adrianna Williams, 20 years old, as well as their younger brother Brayden Williams, 15 years old, and grandmother Kourtney Rouse, 38 years old.
Investigators found that these individuals had not been reported missing the previous night. A brother reported to the rescue service after he found two vehicles in a remote area, and the bodies were discovered in a neighboring forest.
Director of the Bureau of Investigation Tennessee, David Rosh, stated that the murders were likely a targeted attack by Drammond. The unidentified person is in custody and is under the supervision of other relatives.
According to Gudmen, Drammond was found to be under investigation for previous crimes, including aggravated assault and robbery in court. At the time of the murder, he was on bail under indictment.
