Ukraine and Moldova to Start EU Accession Talks Together

Ukraine and Moldova are ready to start negotiations regarding EU membership simultaneously. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, during a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Oana-Silviana Tomescu.

Sybiha emphasized that the path of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU is undeniable, as is the security of both countries. This also corresponds to the national interest of Romania.

"The strength and influence of Ukrainian-Moldovan unity on the path to the EU has repeatedly been proven. We must preserve this unity in the most critical moments for achieving common success. We need to open the first clusters," the minister added.

Negotiations on EU Accession

On May 21, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine is ready to start negotiations on EU membership. The only prerequisite for the start of negotiations is the veto from Hungary.

On July 27, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, stated that Ukraine's accession to the EU poses a threat to Hungary and drags the bloc into a war with Russia. He also asserted that the majority of Hungarians oppose Ukraine's membership in the EU.

Moldova is not facing such a problem. For instance, on July 4, the President of Romania, Nicolae Ciuca, stated that negotiations regarding Moldova's EU accession would begin on July 4, but later clarified that this information was incorrect.
