Victoria Mboko, an 18-year-old tennis player from Canada, reached the WTA 1000 final in Montreal, where she will face Naomi Osaka. She became the first Canadian to defeat three former Grand Slam champions in a single tournament, including Coco Gauff and Olena Rybakina.
Mboko, who received a wild card to participate in the tournament, has achieved six wins in fourteen days. In the semifinal match, she won after saving a match point, defeating Rybakina with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(4). This match took place on home soil for Mboko, where she was supported by numerous fans.
She started the season ranked 350th in the WTA rankings, but has already reached 85th place and is now guaranteed a spot in the top 40. Mboko is also the youngest Canadian woman to reach the final of this tournament.
Born in North Carolina, she moved to Toronto during her childhood. Mboko began playing tennis at three years old, inspired by her older brothers and sisters. Her coach, Nataly Toziat, noted that Victoria successfully handles pressure, playing on home soil.
Victoria will aim to defeat her idol, Naomi Osaka, in the final, which will take place on September 7. This match will be their first professional encounter.
