On Thursday morning, a helicopter crashed into the bank of the Mississippi River near the town of East Alton, Illinois. There were two people on board the aircraft, who, according to confirmed data, were killed.

The accident occurred on the Missouri-side of the river. Witnesses of the incident provided video, showing a black plume of smoke rising from the bank. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will begin an investigation into the causes of the crash.

The town of East Alton is located approximately 32 km to the south of St. Louis.
