The North Carolina Courage team has fired head coach Shawn Nahas due to "multiple factors," reported club sports director Dr. Siri Bouli at a press conference on September 7, 2025. In the statement released by the team, it was noted that Nahas's contract had been terminated.
Nahas had been the head coach of the team for nearly four years. He was present at the training on the day of the dismissal and shared a photo with the team. According to the information shared, the dismissal was related to the unstable results of the team and the loss of trust from the management and some players.
This season, the team has a record of 5-5-4 and currently occupies ninth place in the standings. Bouli emphasized that the decision was made in the interests of the club to achieve their goals on the field. He also noted that Nahas's dismissal was not related to his absence due to medical reasons in July.
Nahas was named head coach in 2022, and under his leadership, the team won the NWSL Challenge Cup twice. Temporarily, his position will be filled by assistant coach Nathan Takeray, who previously held this position.
