Aliyev and Pashinyan to Sign Peace Agreement in Washington

  • The signing of the agreement is scheduled for August 8, 2025, in Washington.
  • The agreement grants the USA rights to develop a transport corridor.
  • The leaders will sign a request for the deployment of the Minsk Group.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.

On August 8, 2025, a peace agreement will be signed between the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Washington. This agreement, as reported by Reuters, will grant the United States exclusive rights to develop a strategic transport corridor through the Southern Caucasus.

The document envisages the creation of a corridor that connects the Azerbaijani enclave of Nakhchivan with the rest of Azerbaijan. Armenia may agree to grant the USA special rights to develop this corridor, which has been named "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP).

The corridor will function in accordance with Armenian legislation, while the USA will transfer land to a consortium for construction and infrastructure management.

In addition, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign documents that contain a request for the formal deployment of the Minsk Group, which has been mediating the conflict since 1999 and includes representatives from France, Russia, and the USA.

This agreement may facilitate Azerbaijan's entry into the Akkordiv Abraham, which were established during Trump's presidency and normalized relations between Israel and several Muslim-majority countries.

Earlier, the leaders met in the United Arab Emirates, but no specific decisions were made at that time. In June, Pashinyan expressed hope that the agreement could be signed by the end of 2025, as achieving peace is one of the key priorities of Armenia's foreign policy.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been ongoing for several decades, starting from the collapse of the Soviet Union, when Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Baku's control and fell under Yerevan's influence. In early 2023, Azerbaijani forces fully controlled the region, which led to the exodus of ethnic Armenians from the area.
