Dan Keene Becomes Honorary ICE Officer and Supports Immigration Policy
- Dan Keene becomes an honorary ICE officer in August.
- The agency is actively recruiting new employees for the implementation of the deportation program.
- Keene encourages Americans to join the service for ensuring security.
Dan Keene, an actor known for his role as Superman in the television show "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" in the 1990s, announced his intention to become an honorary officer of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Keene, 59, in his video statement on Instagram encouraged others to join the service, emphasizing the importance of security for Americans.
A representative from the Department of Homeland Security, Trisha McLaughlin, confirmed that Keene will be accepted in this role in the upcoming month, although his obligations have yet to be specified. Keene is also a reserve deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer.
This step comes amid the activation of the mass deportation program initiated by the Donald Trump administration. ICE is expanding its recruitment of new employees, offering attractive conditions, including signing bonuses of up to $50,000 and the possibility of student loan forgiveness of up to $60,000.
Keene, who openly supports Trump, noted that it is important not only to talk about security but also to act. He encouraged Americans to join ICE, particularly to support immigration policy that foresees significant increases in arrests.
According to ICE data, this year a record number of immigrant arrests was secured, which triggered outrage among civil rights advocates due to the use of aggressive methods of detention.
