Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, which will take place on Saturday evening. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed that quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take the field along with other starters.
Mahomes expressed satisfaction with the decision, although he noted that it doesn't always guarantee the opportunity to make plays. "This allows me to adjust to the upcoming games," he said. Reid plans for all four quarterbacks, including Mahomes, to get time on the field, especially since Mahomes will play in the first quarter.
The team has a new defensive lineup, where rookie Josh Simmons will likely replace Joe Thune in the left guard position. This change became important after the loss in the Super Bowl, which emphasized the need for improvement in the left flank.
Currently, the team also has competition for the positions of receivers, as Rashid Rice and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are missing games due to injuries. Reid emphasized that it’s important for the team to find rhythm and readiness for the season, especially since their previous schedule is waiting for a tight match-up.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon also confirmed that his team's starters will take the field, as he believes it's crucial for the development of their young roster.
