This weekend, Jen Pawol will become the first female umpire to officiate an official Major League Baseball (MLB) game. She will be working the game between Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves.

Pawol, 48, from New Jersey, has already officiated previous games in 2024 and 2025. She began her professional career in 2016 and during this time has made significant progress, becoming the first female umpire at the Triple-A level in 34 years. In 2024, she also became the first female umpire to officiate games in spring training since 2007.

Jen Pawol reflected on her journey to this achievement, recalling the significant challenges and support she received from other female umpires. "It has been a long and challenging path, but I have always loved this kind of sport," she stated.

In MLB, they believe that this achievement will help promote the further development of women in sports. "This is bigger than personal success for Jen; it is an important step for our profession," reads a statement from the MLB Umpires Association.

Jen Pawol began her career with umpiring in the Gulf Coast League and subsequently advanced through the ranks, working in various leagues including High-A Midwest League and Triple-A.
