Trump Administration Asks Court to Lift Immigration Ban
- The Trump administration is asking to lift the ban on immigration stops.
- The court recognized that the actions of immigration services may be discriminatory.
- The case has prompted numerous appeals to the Supreme Court.
Washington — The administration of President Donald Trump on September 7, 2025, appealed to the Supreme Court requesting to lift the ban on immigration stops in Southern California. This ban was implemented following a court ruling that recognized that the actions of immigration services violate the Constitution.
Judge Maame E. Frimpong stated that there is "a smoking gun" indicating that methods of immigration control are discriminatory. The administration asserts that the court's ruling undermines their work in enforcing immigration laws.
In turn, lower courts indicated that immigration service agents conducting stops did not manage to collect "probable cause," which is necessary for such actions. Specifically, it refers to instances when agents stopped individuals who appeared to be Latino, including U.S. citizens.
In response to this, the Trump administration argues that agents have the right to consider certain factors, such as language or place of work, to increase the likelihood of identifying illegal migrants. The case will be considered by the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, and this will already be the sixth case related to Trump’s immigration policy.
