In California, thousands of people are being evacuated due to a fast-spreading fire

  • Evacuation of nearly 4,200 residents due to Canyon Fire.
  • The area affected by the fire has increased to 1,050 acres in three hours.
  • High risk of new forest fires in California.

On Thursday, September 7, 2025, evacuation began for thousands of people in California due to a rapidly spreading fire known as Canyon Fire, which ignited around 1:30 PM local time. According to emergency services in Ventura County, the area affected by the fire increased to about 1,050 acres in less than three hours.

As of late Thursday evening, the fire remained at zero containment and continued to spread to the east. In the vicinity of Los Angeles, approximately 4,200 residents and 1,400 buildings received evacuation orders, while another 12,500 residents were warned about a possible evacuation, reported the spokesperson for the fire service in Ventura County, Andrew Daud.

According to Daud, the situation was "very dynamic" due to the dry and windy weather, as well as steep and difficult terrain. About 250 firefighters were working on the scene, coordinating their efforts with helicopters and other aerial support.

Los Angeles County officials urged residents to evacuate, stressing that extreme heat and low humidity create dangerous conditions for rapid fire spread. The fire threatens power lines and also affects the communities of Haskell Canyon and Getev Ranch, but is moving back toward the Valley Verde community.

The fire is burning not far from Lake Piru, which is located in the national forest of Los Padres. This area is known for its recreational zone, which suffered from the Huzas fire earlier this year, when the fire destroyed nearly 15 square miles of territory.

Currently, the risk of new forest fires in California remains high due to the dry weather, which is expected to continue until the end of the week.
