Tesla Closes Dojo Team and Reassigns Employees

  • Tesla is shutting down the Dojo project and reassigning employees
  • The company plans to collaborate more with external suppliers
  • Elon Musk emphasizes the need to optimize resource allocation in AI development

This was reported by TechCrunch, Asharq Al-Awsat.

Tesla is closing the team that worked on the Dojo supercomputer, which is confirmed by various sources, including Bloomberg. The team leader, Peter Bannon, is leaving the company, while the remaining team members are being reassigned to other projects at Tesla.

The Dojo project was aimed at developing specialized chips for processing large datasets, essential for training software to ensure safe autonomous driving. It is noted that the closure of the Dojo team came after nearly 20 employees left the company to establish a new AI firm called DensityAI.

This decision comes within the framework of strategic changes at Tesla, as Elon Musk highlighted the necessity of optimizing resource allocation to avoid redundancy in various AI chips. The company plans to increase its reliance on external technology suppliers, such as Nvidia and Samsung, for the development of new chips.

Recently, Tesla signed a deal worth $16.5 billion with Samsung for the supply of new AI chips, which will be used in self-driving cars and robots. Musk also noted that the new AI5 and AI6 chips will be important for data processing.

The closure of Dojo marks a significant turning point in Tesla's strategy, which previously regarded this project as a key element for achieving full autonomous driving.
