Expansion of Tourism Thanks to the Series Outlander
- Outlander is contributing to the growth of tourism in Scotland.
- The spin-off Blood of My Blood expands the story of the series.
- Groups related to traditions are gaining new popularity.
The series Outlander, which first aired in 2013, continues to influence the tourism industry in Scotland. The adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's novels has captivated viewers from all over the world, especially from the USA and Germany. The first season began filming in Scotland, including locations such as Cullross and Glenco.
Since the release of the series, tourism in Scotland has increased, thanks to what is commonly referred to as the "Outlander effect." Jennie Steel, a manager in the film and creative industries organization Visit Scotland, notes that the series draws attention to Scottish culture, history, and traditions. For example, the "Badenoch Waulking Group" has gained popularity after participating in showcases, promoting the traditional "waulking" craft.
The series not only piques interest in Scottish locations but also inspires international visitors to learn more about local culture. It has been noted that approximately 30% of international tourists visit Scotland after watching films and television shows featuring it.
Recently, the spin-off Blood of My Blood was released, which tells the story of the fathers of the main characters from Outlander. This spin-off promises to further highlight Scottish history, which, according to Jennie Steel, may further boost tourist interest in the region.
