In Gaza, the famous footballer Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as "the Palestinian Pele," was killed. He sustained fatal injuries from Israeli fire on September 7, 2025, while waiting for humanitarian aid at a distribution center.
Al-Obeid, who was 41 years old, began his successful career, scoring over 100 goals during his club appearances, including for "Al-Shati Club." He also represented the national team of Palestine, playing in 24 matches.
According to the Palestinian Football Association, Al-Obeid's death became part of a larger tragedy: since the start of the war in Gaza in July 2023, 662 individuals from the sports sector have been killed, of which 321 were connected to football.
The situation in Gaza continues to worsen due to the humanitarian crisis, as Israeli forces are accused of killing over 1,300 Palestinians, many of whom were seeking to receive aid from humanitarian centers. Al-Obeid left behind a wife and five children.
