- The agreement aims for economic cooperation in the region
President of the USA Donald Trump will hold a peace summit today between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House. The leaders of the two countries, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, confirmed their participation in the ceremony for signing the peace agreement.
The conflict between these countries has been ongoing for many years, and both countries have repeatedly faced military actions in the disputed region Nagorno-Karabakh, which Azerbaijan regained in 2023. This led to a massive emigration of over 100 thousand ethnic Armenians.
Earlier, in June, peace talks took place in the United Arab Emirates, but no agreement was reached. Trump noted that his administration actively worked with both sides to achieve peace and expressed pride in the leaders who are ready to cooperate.
He also spoke about signing bilateral agreements aimed at economic cooperation, which opens new opportunities for the Southern Caucasus region.
It is noted that recently an agreement was signed between ExxonMobil and the state energy company of Azerbaijan SOCAR as part of preparations for the peace agreement.
