Amtrak has announced that the new NextGen Acela high-speed trains will start operations on August 28, 2025. These trains will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 miles per hour, which is 10 miles per hour faster than the previous Acela models.

Amtrak also noted that the new trains will have 27% more seating capacity and enhanced amenities in standard, business, and first-class.

Among the new features are complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, USB ports, and electrical outlets, individual reading lights, as well as new reclining seats with additional comfort.

The first five new trains will enter service in September, and by 2027 their number will increase to 28. The trains are being manufactured by the French company Alstom, and their assembly is taking place in New York State.

Amtrak President Roger Harris stated that "NextGen Acela is not just a new train; it is an evolution of rail travel."
