Canyon fire engulfs an area of over 4,800 acres
- The canyon fire has reached 4,856 acres without containment.
- Evacuation orders affect over 4,200 residents.
- High temperatures contribute to the rapid spread of the fire.
The canyon fire erupted on Thursday near the town of Piru in Ventura County, California, and quickly grew to 4,856 acres, having no level of containment. The blaze has prompted numerous evacuations in the surrounding areas of Los Angeles and Ventura through extreme conditions that may aid the fire's further spread.
According to information from Cal Fire, as of last night, the fire had no level of containment. Evacuation orders were issued for six zones in the Los Angeles area, including for the communities of Val Verde, Hasley Canyon, and Castaic, as well as for four zones in the Ventura area.
In total, 4,200 residents have been placed under evacuation orders in the Los Angeles area. Officials warn that the situation may worsen due to high temperatures, which have reached 48 degrees Celsius in some areas.
The canyon fire is one of several large fires burning in California, including the largest fire of the year, the Hifford, which has consumed 99,232 acres in the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
