On September 8, 2025, a memorial service for Ukrainian journalist Viktoriya Roshyna, who died in Russian captivity, took place in Kyiv. The memorial service was held at the St. Michael's Cathedral, after which a funeral service was conducted at Baikove Cemetery.

Viktoriya Roshyna, known for her reports from the front lines and occupied territories, began her career in journalism at the age of 16. After Russia's full-scale invasion, she focused on exposing human rights violations and the judicial system. Her works were published on platforms such as "Ukrainska Pravda."

Roshyna was captured by Russian troops in the Berdyansk region in February 2022, remained in captivity, and disappeared on September 3, 2023. Her detention was confirmed by Russia only in April 2024. After 15 months in captivity, she was supposed to be transferred to Moscow in the fall of 2024.

On September 2, 2025, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy posthumously awarded Roshyna the Order of Freedom for her courage and dedication to the defense of Ukraine's independence.
