President of the United States Donald Trump called for the immediate resignation of new Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, asserting that he has a "high conflict of interest" due to ties with Chinese companies. This came after Senator Republican Tom Cotton sent a letter to Intel's board of directors with inquiries regarding Tan's investments in Chinese firms, some of which are linked to the Chinese military.
Trump announced his demand on the Truth Social platform, stating that "the CEO of Intel must be fired, immediately." His comments came after it became known that Tan has investments in connections with Chinese military enterprises. Along with the information that journalists obtained, he invested no less than $200 million in Chinese companies linked to advanced technologies.
In turn, Intel announced that the company "deeply values national and economic interests of the USA" and makes significant investments in accordance with Trump's "America First" policy. Tan also noted that he and the company are in contact with Trump's administration to improve the situation.
This situation provoked discussions among investors, as Trump openly called for a change in leadership, which is a rare occurrence in American politics. Investors expressed concern that similar actions could create an unprecedented precedent.
