On Thursday, August 8, 2025, an incident occurred aboard the cruise liner Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas, resulting in injuries to a passenger. During the operation of the water slide, a piece of acrylic panel broke off.
According to a representative of Royal Caribbean Group, the injured passenger received medical assistance and is recovering in stable condition. However, the severity of their injuries is currently unknown.
Photographs and videos of the incident, shared by other passengers, show water leaking through a crack in the broken panel. People in the video stopped the slide.
The water slide is closed during the investigation conducted by the company. The liner departed from Miami on August 2 and is scheduled to return to Florida on Saturday.
Icon of the Seas, launched in January 2024, has 20 decks, over 2800 cabins, and can accommodate 7600 guests and 2350 crew members. The ship boasts 40 venues for dining and entertainment, all themed "neighborhoods," and the largest water park at sea, known as Category 6.
