Bayern Munich Signs Agreement with Emirates After Criticism Regarding Rwanda

The football club Bavaria has signed a new agreement with the airline Emirates, which belongs to the United Arab Emirates, two years after the termination of cooperation with Qatar Airways. This agreement, announced on August 8, 2025, includes advertising on the field and joint activities on the company’s social media.

Unlike the agreement with Rwanda, Bavaria does not mention a football academy in the UAE. Emirates is a well-known sponsor in sports, having agreements with clubs such as Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Criticism directed at Bavaria intensified after the signing of the agreement with Rwanda, which received a backlash for supporting the regime in neighboring Congo. Fans of the club have repeatedly protested against this sponsorship, considering it inappropriate.

Following the criticism, Bavaria announced a transition to a new agreement with Rwanda, which will now focus on the development of young footballers within the framework of the Bavaria Academy in Kigali. The new partnership format aims to improve sports development in the region.

While Bavaria did not specify when the "Visit Rwanda" branding would be removed, the new approach emphasizes social initiatives and talent development.

A representative from Rwanda emphasized that the new partnership with Bavaria will help promote sports development in the country and position Rwanda as a global center for tourism and investment.
