Premier League Ends Partnership with Stonewall
- The Premier League has ended its partnership with Stonewall.
- Clubs will continue campaigns against discrimination.
- Players will continue to perform the taking the knee gesture in two matches.
The Premier League will no longer participate in the Rainbow Laces campaign following the conclusion of its partnership with the charity organization LGBTQ+ Stonewall.
The partnership began in 2017 with the aim of promoting equality for LGBTQ+ individuals in football. According to information from Daily Telegraph, the Premier League plans to launch its own campaign in June during LGBTQ+ History Month.
The league will continue to collaborate with clubs to emphasize that discrimination will not be tolerated, and existing educational resources will remain accessible.
The Rainbow Laces campaign, which started in 2013, encouraged players to wear laces and armbands in rainbow colors to support the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.
However, some players, including Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy, have refused to wear rainbow armbands due to religious beliefs.
Captains of the Premier League have also agreed to continue the "taking the knee" gesture in the 2025-26 seasons, but only in two matches in June, traditionally dedicated to Black History Month.
This decision was made following the announcement that the England women's team will no longer perform this gesture.
