Naomi Osaka and Victoria Mboko withdrew from the Cincinnati Open after the final of the Canadian Open, which took place on August 7, 2025, in Montreal. Mboko, an 18-year-old Canadian, sustained an injury during the semifinal match, which forced her to withdraw from participating in the upcoming tournament.
Naomi Osaka, who also reached the final, does not plan to play in Cincinnati, in order to recover her strength ahead of the US Open, which starts on August 24. Osaka is hoping to secure a wildcard for the mixed doubles in this tournament.
In addition, following their performance in Montreal, Osaka and Mboko rose in the world ranking: Osaka moved from 49th place to 25th, while Mboko climbed from 85th to 24th.
Both tennis players have the opportunity to receive a "performance bye" in Cincinnati, which allows them to advance directly to the second round. Instead of them, in the first rounds will compete four "lucky losers" - tennis players who did not qualify for the main tournament.
