In Los Angeles, a robbery took place at a store where thieves stole Labubu dolls worth nearly $7000. The incident occurred on September 6 at 1:29 AM at the One Stop Sales store, which specializes in selling these popular toys.
The store's co-owner, Joann Avendano, reported that the thieves specifically targeted Labubu dolls, leaving other items behind. She suspects that the robbery was planned, as a getaway vehicle was parked nearby. At the moment of the robbery, the store's social media had just posted about a new shipment of dolls, which may have drawn the attention of the thieves.
The police confirmed that several boxes of dolls were stolen from the store, and the vehicle used for the getaway was a stolen Toyota Tacoma, which was later found abandoned. According to Avendano, their surveillance footage of the stolen merchandise and the creation of the business were recorded on camera.
Labubu dolls, which debuted in China in 2015, gained popularity among children and adults, including celebrities. They sell for around $30, but on the secondary market, their value can reach thousands of dollars.
The growing popularity of Labubu has led to the emergence of knock-offs, known as Lafufu, which are made from lower quality materials.
