U.S. Vice President JD Vance confirmed that Washington "has no plans" to recognize Palestine, stating that the absence of a functional government in the region raises doubts about such recognition. His comments were made ahead of a scheduled bilateral meeting with the British Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lemme, which will take place in historic Mayfair.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around issues related to the war in Gaza, as well as the war in Ukraine. Vance expressed the view that there are "discrepancies" between Washington and London in approaches to resolving the situation in Gaza, particularly regarding the common goal of de-escalating the conflict.
Commenting on Great Britain's plans to recognize Palestine, Vance noted: "It is clear that the United Kingdom will make its own decision. We have no plans to recognize a Palestinian state." He also emphasized that both sides want to resolve the crisis, but may have different views on how to achieve that goal.
In the course of his visit, Vance highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two countries for achieving peace in the world. He and Lemme spent time together fishing, discussing shared interests such as economics and trade.
At the meeting, they also discussed issues related to the war in Ukraine and the interaction between the two countries in the context of global politics. Lemme noted that the absence of political discourse is part of democracy, emphasizing the importance of shared interests for achieving positive results for people.
