- Jill Teichman will replace Badosa in the tournament.
- Alizé Cornet may enter the main draw if anyone else withdraws.
This was reported by ESPN, L'Équipe.
Former top-10 tennis player Paula Badosa announced her withdrawal from the US Open on Friday due to a spinal injury that has troubled her since her defeat in the first round at Wimbledon on June 30.
This was confirmed by the U.S. Tennis Association, which also stated that Jill Teichman will take her place in the tournament. Alizé Cornet, who returned to tennis this year after a hiatus in 2024, will be next in line for a spot in the main draw if anyone else withdraws from participation.
The competition will start on August 24 in a single-elimination format for this year's final Grand Slam.
Badosa, a 27-year-old tennis player from Spain, reached the highest ranking of her career - No. 2 in 2022, and currently holds the No. 12 position.
She reached the semifinals at the Australian Open in January. Her best result at the US Open was reaching the quarterfinals last year.
