Tkachuk has not decided whether he needs surgery after the injury

  • Tkachuk may miss 2-3 months due to a possible surgery
  • He sustained the injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off
  • The Panthers will start their regular season on July 7 against Chicago

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk continues to remain undecided regarding the possibility of undergoing surgery for the serious injuries sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off in the summer. Tkachuk mentioned in his interview that if he decides to proceed with the surgery, he could miss anywhere from two to three months, which could impact his return to the ice.

He noted the rupture of an additional muscle and sports hernia, which forced him to miss the last 25 games of the regular NHL season, but he returned for the first playoff match against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tkachuk became a key player in the playoffs, scoring 23 points (all goals, 15 assists) in 23 games, including six points in the final against Edmonton.

Team coach Paul Maurice stated that Tkachuk was in a critical state of health during the playoffs, but despite this, he managed to help the team win another Stanley Cup. Tkachuk indicated that in the next few weeks, he will make a decision regarding the surgery and hopes to return to the ice as soon as possible.

The Panthers' regular season begins on July 7 with a match against the Chicago Blackhawks.
