Market indicators are rising on the optimism regarding the reduction of interest rates

  • Nasdaq reached a record closing due to the rise of technology stocks
  • Optimism regarding the reduction of interest rates supports the stock market
  • Import tariffs remain an unchanged factor for the economy

On August 8, 2025, the U.S. stock market closed on a positive note, with Nasdaq achieving a record closing for the second consecutive week due to the rise of technology stocks, including Apple. Investor optimism regarding a possible reduction in interest rates also contributed to the results.

The three main indices showed good results throughout the week. Apple shares rose by 4.2% for the day and 13.3% for the week, marking the largest weekly increase since 2020. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Apple is investing an additional $100 billion in the U.S., bringing the total investment sum to $600 billion over the next four years.

The technology and communications sectors also boosted the S&P 500, which rose by 49.45 points, or 0.78%, to 6389.45. Gilead Sciences shares surged by 8.3% following an upgraded forecast for the year.

Despite the positive news, the rise in import tariffs imposed by Trump remains an unchanged factor. The tariff on gold, introduced last Thursday, triggered an increase in gold prices by more than 1%. This occurred after Trump imposed tariffs on gold bullion, which may affect the volume of exports from Switzerland to the U.S.

Expectations of a reduction in rates by 25 basis points at the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting have risen to 89.4%, up from 80.3% last week. Trump's nomination of Stephen Moore to the Federal Reserve Board has also increased investor interest.

In light of these events, investors are also focusing on trade relations between the U.S. and India, especially since India has suspended purchases of American arms and aircraft under conditions of increased tariffs on Indian exports to 50%.
