The City Council Supports the New Stadium for the Chicago Bears
- The Chicago Bears are planning a new stadium in Arlington Heights.
- The approved legislation will ensure tax incentives for construction.
- The project will create thousands of new jobs in Illinois.
The Chicago Bears, a professional football team, continue to focus on Arlington Heights as the site for their new stadium. Team president Kevin Warren confirmed that the team plans to begin construction of the stadium, which the legislation ensuring tax incentives for large projects will include.
Warren noted that the stadium is already designed, and the team is ready to start work. According to his statements, the approved legislation is critically important for advancing the project, as without it, they cannot proceed. The team hopes that voting will take place in June.
Once the legislation is approved, the Bears plan to start work on the stadium site later this year, with formal construction beginning next year. According to estimates, the project will create over 56,000 jobs during construction and 9,100 permanent jobs after completion.
The team’s leadership emphasizes that this project is important not only for the team but also for the economy of the state of Illinois as a whole. The Bears intend to invest nearly $2.7 billion in the new stadium on the site of the former Arlington International racetrack.
Since signing the agreement for the purchase of the land in Arlington Heights in the spring of 2021, the team has been eager to realize the project in downtown Chicago, but has once again refocused on Arlington Heights.
