Trump Scheduled Meeting with Putin in Alaska
- Trump announced a meeting with Putin on September 15 in Alaska
- Zelensky may participate in the negotiations
- Alaska has historical significance as a former Russian territory
The President of the USA, Donald Trump, announced a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which will take place on September 15, 2025, in Alaska. This event will be the first in a decade when Putin visits US territory, disregarding the order of the International Criminal Court regarding his arrest.
The meeting will discuss issues related to the war in Ukraine. Trump previously stated that he could end the conflict "from day one" of his presidency. While there has been no official comment from Ukraine, a source from CBS News noted that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky may participate in this meeting.
Alaska, chosen as the location for the meeting, has historical significance, as it was formerly part of the Russian Empire. In 1867, the USA purchased this state for $7.2 million. Currently, Alaska is an important territory for the USA from an economic and resource perspective.
Putin's press secretary, Yuri Ushakov, confirmed that the conversation with Trump will focus on finding ways to resolve the long-standing conflict in Ukraine. The meeting has provoked various reactions in the USA, where some politicians have expressed concern about Putin's presence on American soil.
According to data, over 19 thousand Ukrainian children have been abducted and transported to Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in the summer of 2022, which has become a major reason for international condemnation.
