Midfielder Rodri is recovering after "a serious injury" sustained during the World Club Cup among clubs. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reported that the injury will limit the playing time of the 29-year-old Spaniard at the beginning of the new Premier League season.
Guardiola did not disclose details of the injury, but emphasized that Rodri sustained the injury during a match against Saudi club Al-Hilal (4:3) in June. According to information from British media, the player was diagnosed with a thigh injury.
Rodri returned to training on the field after an eight-week break following a rupture of the previous cruciate ligament. Guardiola noted that "Rodri feels better, but he sustained a serious injury in the last match." The coach hopes that after the international break in September, the player will be able to play without limitations.
Manchester City, which finished last season in third place, will start its campaign in the Premier League on August 16 with a match against Wolverhampton.
