Ehud Olmert criticizes Netanyahu's plans regarding Gaza

  • Ehud Olmert called Netanyahu's plans regarding Gaza catastrophic.
  • The military leadership of Israel speaks out against the expansion of the war.
  • Olmert calls for cooperation with the Palestinian administration.

Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister of Israel, expressed serious concerns regarding Netanyahu's plans of continuing the military operation in Gaza. Olmert, who initially supported the war in Gaza after the attack on July 7, now believes that such actions will lead to "historical catastrophe."

In his interview, Olmert stated that the war has achieved all its goals, and further prolonging it only harms the interests of Israel, serving only his personal interests. He believes that Netanyahu intends to continue the war to avoid political consequences that may arise from its conclusion.

Olmert also noted that the majority of Israelis reject aggressive plans of Netanyahu, aimed at further escalation of the conflict. He emphasized that it is necessary to end racism and return to negotiations, rather than expanding military actions, especially as international opposition is growing.

On the other hand, Netanyahu's plans regarding the occupation of Gaza have drawn criticism from the military leadership, which warns about possible humanitarian consequences and risks for the negotiators. Despite this, the Prime Minister continues to pursue his plans, which do not satisfy either the military or his political partners.

Additionally, Olmert noted that both sides - Netanyahu and Hamas - bear responsibility for the failure in the negotiations regarding the cessation of hostilities. He believes that for achieving peace it is essential to cooperate with the Palestinian administration, even if it has its weaknesses.

Currently, Olmert is working on an initiative that promotes a resolution between two states as the only viable path to resolving the conflict between Israel and the Arab world.
