On Friday evening, evacuation orders were lifted in parts of Southern California as firefighters continue to battle the Canyon Fire. The fire has consumed approximately 5,400 acres and is currently 28% contained, according to data from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).

The evacuation orders that affected thousands of residents in Ventura and Los Angeles counties have been reduced to a warning, indicating a potential threat to life and property.

The Canyon Fire is burning in the mountainous area north of Los Angeles and is rapidly spreading into the communities of Castiac in Los Angeles County.

Officials from Ventura County reported on Friday that firefighters have made "good progress in suppressing the fire, thanks to favorable weather conditions and consistent aerial support that has been providing repeated water drops and retardant materials."

However, the fire remains an active threat and continues to spread further east into the Los Angeles County area.

In updates posted on Friday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that three firefighters sustained minor injuries during the battle with the fire and were transported to a local hospital "out of caution," but are expected to recover fully.

Warnings have also been issued regarding the risk of mudslides due to the recent forest fires for parts of Los Angeles County, particularly along the I-5 corridor near Castaic Lake. Air quality issues are expected to persist into the weekend.

Smoke from the fire is a serious problem, as it can contain small particles that may penetrate deep into the lungs, which could worsen or increase the risk of asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions.

The Canyon Fire ignited Thursday afternoon near Holster Canyon and quickly engulfed more than 1,500 acres within a matter of hours. This is one of several large fires currently burning in California, including the massive Griffith Park fire, which ignited September 1 in the National Forest of Los Padres.
