New York Attorney General Continues Investigation Against Trump

Washington (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice has issued a subpoena to New York Attorney General Letitia James in connection with her investigation into fraud against President Donald Trump. The subpoena relates to documents associated with the fraud case that James filed against Trump, accusing him of inflating the value of his assets to obtain favorable loans.

In 2023, James won a case against Trump, as a result of which he was ordered to pay more than $350 million. Trump is appealing this ruling, asserting that his financial documents actually undervalued his wealth.

James also received a subpoena in connection with the investigation of the National Rifle Association (NRA). She stressed that any abuse of judicial power must serve to protect all Americans. Her attorney, Abbe Lowell, called the subpoenas "unprecedented" and pointed to the political context from the Trump administration's side.

In turn, Trump's administration accuses James of abusing her investigative powers. Earlier, there were accusations of fraud with the implication against James, but no criminal cases against her have been filed.

This situation unfolds against the backdrop of an investigation that touches on ties between Trump and Russia, as well as issues related to regulatory agencies that have been involved in reviewing Trump's activities and his affiliates.
