Trump recalled that Washington had become "one of the safest cities in the world," although federal data shows a decline in the crime rate to historically low levels. Along with the information published on August 8, racial crime in Washington has decreased by 35% from 2023 to 2024 and by 26% in 2025.

Trump also stated that if the situation does not improve, he would consider the possibility of implementing federal control over the city. However, for this, Congressional approval is needed, as there is a law that allows local residents to elect their representatives.

In the White House, there have already been expanded agencies with several civil rights organizations to enhance security in the city. This includes the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service.
